This page will change - in essence this is our attempt to sift through all the noise and conflicting stats about ecommerce and present a few little nuggets for our clients and prospective clients.

If you're new to ecommerce and distance selling please check out the rules of the game here http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38102.html

Our primary sources are New Media Age and Internet Retailer - we are a web agency, we may be a bit biased and the main thrust of this page is that if you're a retailer - get online as there is gold in them there hills!!

£100m was spent online on Christmas day 2008 - when the actual high street was shut. Think about it.

UK shoppers spent more than £4.67bn online in December 2008, an increase of 14.2% on the previous years

We think there is a lot of merit in the idea of utilising retail space in the future to provide a brand experience with fulfilment handled online - via in-store kiosks, it will certainly work for brands such as Nike who produce a wealth brand related content. A bricks and clicks model makes sense as online lags behind physical retail for the all important customer service and after sales care.

David Smith of the Interactive Marketing in Retail Group (IMRG) says 'The forecast for this year is for 15% growth for online retail spend, while the high street is looking at negative growth' - we hope he is right (about the first bit!).

Online fashion retailers have seen a 31% increase in traffic over the past 12 months, compared with just a 1% rise for traditional catalogue companies.
